potty training

Potty training update.

We’ve been nappy free in the day for around a month and although we’ve had a fair few accidents we’ve decided there’s no going back.

We made the decision to go nappy free after seeing how pops was with the potty, taking herself to it even when we were out of the room and being aware she needed to go even without being prompted.

That all changed just after we ‘officially’ started potty training.

The first nappy free day was perfect, had no accidents but from then on it was a massive regression. She would only go to the potty if she was told or placed on. The most frustrating part was knowing she knew what to do.
We decided not to give up and keep going. Stickers/singing/chocolate/reward charts and 4 weeks of washing everything 😥 and we’re over the ‘hump’.

I wouldn’t call pops potty trained but she’s definitely the closest she’s ever been.

We have accidents and frustration but she’s 2 and learning and we’re going to stick at this and see it through.

How did your little one do with potty training?

Is it common for kids to have accidents 5 weeks in? (Sometimes they are such easily avoid ones too which is the frustrating part.)

Until the next post,

Are and Pops.

  1. Great to hear you are sticking with it Potty training isn’t an easy task! We used sweet rewards so everytime he used the potty we would reward it and suprisingly he picked it up so quickly! However in regards to poos as soon as he did one in the potty and saw it he completely freaked out and refused to poo again his went on for some months and it was really really difficult so we moved him from the potty to the big toilet and soon after all was well again!!

  2. I personally think accidents at any stage are normal! I helped my mum to potty train my little brother and it wasn’t the easiest thing to do – at first he wouldn’t even look at or sit on the potty!! x

  3. I remember potty training my little girl and she took to it like a duck to water, we had a potty that looked like a mini toilet which made the transition onto the toilet a whole lot easier although the odd accident did happen here and there especially when we were out as it was her downfall in telling us she needed to go then xx
